Mixed Spice Caramel Apple Crumble

This spiced apple caramel crumble is everything you want when the weather turns cold. Soft chopped apples are coated in rich caramel and warming mixed spice flavour, then topped with a golden, buttery crumble that bakes up perfectly crisp. Served warm with a generous pour of custard or extra caramel sauce, it’s a deeply comforting dessert that fills the kitchen with the most inviting aromas and makes cold evenings feel instantly cosier.

Ingredients

  • 125g Unsalted Butter
  • 155g Light Soft Brown Sugar
  • 175g Plain Flour
  • 75g Porridge Oats
  • 5 Bramley Apples, peeled, cored and diced (approx. 750g)
  • 100g Caramel Sauce
  • 30-40 Drops Foodie Flavours Mixed Spice Flavour

Instructions

Servings 8 / Prep time 15 min / Cook time 35 mins

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C/160°C fan.
  2. Cut the butter into small chunks and rub it into the flour and porridge oats using your fingertips, until you have a breadcrumb consistency.
  3. Mix in 125g of the sugar until evenly distributed and set aside.
  4. Peel, core and chop the apples into 1 cm pieces.
  5. Add the chopped apple, mixed spice flavouring, caramel (we used Carnation Caramel) and remaining sugar into a large saucepan.
  6. Stir together and heat on a medium setting for 5 mins, to slightly soften the apple.
  7. Spread the apple mixture out in a 26cm long roasting dish, then cover with the crumble mixture.
  8. Bake for 30 mins or until the crumble is golden and the apple mixture is bubbling along the sides.
  9. Delicious when served with caramel or custard.
